Dr. Anne-Marie Cruickshank - Medical Director - ECC

The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados, Medical Director - ECC, Dr. Anne-Marie Cruickshank Dr.Anne-Marie Jacqueline Cruickshank , a Grenadian by birth, migrated to Barbados in 1975 where she attended St.Gabriel’s Primary School followed by Queen’s College Secondary School. In 1983 she entered the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Faculty of Natural Sciences and did a BSc (Bachelor of Science), double majoring in Biology. In 1987 she entered the Medical Faculty at the Mona Campus, and graduated in 1992 with a MBBS ( Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery). She did her post graduate studies at the Cave Hill Campus and in 1997 did a MSc ( Master of Science) specializing in Emergency Medicine, followed by a DM (Doctorate of Medicine) also in Emergency Medicine. She presently is an Associate Lecturer in Emergency Medicine with the University of the West Indies.

Dr. Cruickshank worked in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital from 1992, where she started as a House Officer before finally becoming a Senior Registrar in the Accident & Emergency Department where she worked for 12 ½ years. In 2006 Dr. Cruickshank left to work at Sandy Crest Medial Centre, a private Emergency Centre. In 2008 she went to work full time at her own clinic which she started with a colleague and in 2009 she returned to the Accident & Emergency Department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital as a sessional Emergency Physician.

Her association with the then Heart Foundation of Barbados started in 1993 when she did the Basic Rescuer course. This was followed by the ACLS Provider course in 1994 and then the ACLS Instructor course in 1995. She became a Basic Rescuer Instructor in 2000, and in 2003 did the PALS provider course in the USA as it was not provided at that time by the then Heart Foundation of Barbados. In 2005 she became the ACLS Course Coordinator, and in 2011 she became the Medical Director of the Emergency Cardiac Care Programme where she oversees BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support), ACLS( Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS( Paediatric Advanced Life Support) courses. She is the Training Center Coordinator of the now Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados which is aligned with the American Heart Association and she is responsible for four (4) Training Sites in the region- Guyana, Nevis, St.Maarten and Saba.
